I hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Just wanted to put a few things are your radar.
Summer Camp- although Hawk Mountain just ended, we are already looking ahead to next year. Summer Camp 2026 will be July 12-18. We locked in the same price as this year, $600. Hawk is offering an early bird special of $500, but you need to be paid in full by December 1.
Gettysburg- our first Troop wide trip of the year will be to Gettysburg, during Columbus Day weekend, October 9-12. We will be completing the Gettysburg Historic Trails Hike, which involves 3 hikes through Gettysburg and the battlefield of 2 ½ , 5 and 10 miles, a tour of the Visitors Center and Museum and tour of the Eisenhower farm. Everyone completing all components will earn the Gettysburg trail medal.
The cost of the trip is $75, which is more than most for several reasons. First, we have a lot to do and will probably not wrap up until Sunday evening. Everyone will be tired, and Gettysburg is about 3 ½ hours away, so some of the older scout leaders (Avena, Dillilo) would prefer to wait until Monday morning to come home. So, we had to rent the cabin at Camp Tuckahoe for 3 nights. Second, since we are going to be out most of the day and no one is going to want to cook, we are getting catered food for dinner on Saturday and Sunday nights. Third, we need to pay for admission to the museum, Eisenhower farm and for the medals.
So, the cost is a little high, but this is one of the best trips we do, and Gettysburg is something everyone should see at least once. Hopefully we have a strong turnout.
