SCOUTMASTER’S MINUTE

We talk a lot about what boys can get out of Boy Scouts and things that often come up are leadership, love of the outdoors, self-confidence, etc. One of the often-overlooked benefits is a commitment to service. This should not be overlooked as it’s right there in the Scout Oath- “to help other people at all times”, but it often is. Scouts often just look at service hours as part of a requirement for one of the upper ranks, but that’s missing the point. The service hours are not required just to help make rank, they are designed to instill in the scouts an ongoing willingness to, as the scout slogan says, ‘do a good turn daily.”
Just as we expect our scouts to be leaders in whatever they do as a result if the training they received in the BSA, we also expect them to continue to serve others long after they take off the uniform for the last time.
It does not have to be something formal, like volunteering in a food pantry, it can be simpler, everyday things, like shoveling your neighbor’s walk or carrying an elderly person’s groceries to their car. The point is, the scout oath should always be part of you, and you should always be ready to help others.

Camp Citta

We arrived at Camp Citta around 7 p.m. on November 14, 2025. After a quick five minute walk through the chilly evening air, we reached our campsite and unloaded all our gear. Once everyone had their sleeping arrangements sorted, we pitched our tents around the campfire. Dinner came next along with some fun games like The Imposter. After the games, we turned in for the night, braving the cold weather in our tents.
The next morning, we got right to cooking breakfast, with the scouts preparing BEC (bacon, egg, and cheese) sandwiches and oatmeal. After cleaning up our area, we worked on scout advancements before discovering a nearby GaGa ball court. That quickly became the highlight of the morning! We even played a match against another troop before breaking for lunch, where we enjoyed cold-cut sandwiches.
In the afternoon, we headed to the shooting range for some shotgun practice. Mr. Changoo impressed everyone by hitting all the targets! Back at camp, we kept the fun going with more rounds of The Imposter until dinner. Our evening meal included tacos and chicken curry, both were delicious. We ended the night playing more rounds of The Imposter before turning in. On Sunday morning, we packed up our campsite, and made our way back to Staten Island tired, happy, and full of great memories from my first scouting trip.

OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY!

I had a great time at Christmas party. Everyone showed up in ugly sweaters and Christmas hats showing enthusiasm for the event. We told jokes, we were singing Christmas songs, and ate food. When it got towards the end we were generously handed a gift from the scout master. I had a great time and can’t wait for another party like that next year.
We had a wonderful time at the troop 37 Boy Scout Christmas party this year. The room was filled with laughter and the spirit of the season as we sang traditional Christmas songs. There was plenty of food to eat, and everyone shared stories as they ate and celebrated the season. It was a simple but wonderful time that reminded us all how special it is to have fun and make wonderful memories during the holiday season.

NO-BE-BO-SCO 2026

On January 9, we went to No-Be-Bo-Sco Scout Camp in Hardwick Township, NJ. The weather was in true troop tradition: cold, wet and foggy, but as usual we still had a good time. Our plan for the weekend was to make the best of it like we always do. We had lots of laughs and ate good food.
On Saturday after breakfast of bagels, granola bars, apples and muffins we were ready to go. We all helped clean up after breakfast and then we all piled in the cars and went to the Lakota Wolf Preserve. The Wolf Preserve has about 27 wolves that the owner James Stein had rescued from all over the country. Mr. Stein was able to train the wolves to howl on his command, they were very loud and Mr. Stein told us the wolves howl at fire trucks. Mr. Stein also told us that he even had each of the wolves at his home at one point. We all enjoyed seeing the Wolves at the Preserve and meeting Mr. Stein.
After a full day, we had Philly Cheese steaks for dinner that we all loved. We cleaned up after dinner and even though we didn’t watch movies we had a good time playing board
games. We always have a lot of laughs, and we all loved going back to the cabin at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. We had a great time at the Wolf Preserve and we made the most of the bad weather and still made great memories.
