As we embark on a new scouting year, I would like to remind everyone of a few policies:
Communication- as everyone knows, Troop 37 is boy lead. The youth leaders are responsible for planning the meetings, monthly trips and recording advancements. Additionally, one of the things we are trying to teach them is to be responsible for their own attendance, completion of requirements, etc. As such, all communications about those things should be between the boys. If a scout has a question about advancement, he should address it to his Patrol leader. The new Patrol leaders have or will shortly create group chats for the patrol members to communicate with each other about these things. If a scout cannot make a meeting, he should let his Patrol leader know. If a Patrol Leader can not make a meeting, he should make sure he has an assistant to cover for him and let the SPL know well in advance of Friday night. If the SPL cannot make the meeting, he should make sure he has an ASPL to cover and let me know.
Over the past 6 months or so, most of the e-mails I get about these things are from parents. I have responded to them, but I am going to stop responding to anything a parent sends me that should come from a scout. Obviously, there are legitimate things parents ask such as pick up times from trips or medications scouts need, etc., but most things should come from the scouts. Also, please emphasize to your scouts that when they do contact an adult, to copy you on the communication.
Payments/Refunds- payments and permission slips for camping trips are virtually always due 2 weeks before the trip. I give enough notice that there are usually at least 3 meetings where you have the opportunity to make payment. Additionally, you can always make arrangements to get payment to Suja or I outside of the meetings. So, the deadline is the deadline. If you miss the deadline, please do not ask for us to make an exception for late payment. As far as refunds go, as long as you cancel by the end of the meeting the week prior to the trip, you can have a refund. After that, there are no refunds.
Thank you for your cooperation.
